Children's camping – an adventure for the whole family
Camping with children is not just a cozy way to vacation – it is a real adventure filled with play, discoveries and quality time together. Children love the freedom in nature, the exciting excursions and the opportunity to play with new friends at the campsite. Regardless of whether you live in a tent, caravan or cabin, there is much that makes camping life a favorite for the little ones. Child-friendly campsites with playgrounds, pools and activities are especially popular. And of course there are gadgets that make the experience even better – everything from colorful sleeping bags and headlamps to mini grills and child-safe camping chairs.
Tips for a successful camping trip with children
Choose a child-friendly campsite
Opt for a place with a playground, children's pool or organised activities. Many family campsites also have a kids' club, mini disco or story time.
Plan simple meals
Children get hungry quickly after playing – have snacks ready and plan simple meals that are quick to prepare. A cooler or portable cooler is a must.
Pack according to weather and play
Bring layers of clothing, rain gear, and extra changes. Children often get dirty – and they should! Don't forget rubber boots and a sun hat.
Create a safe sleeping place
Whether you sleep in a tent or a caravan: make it cozy and safe for the children with their own sleeping bags, favorite pillow or stuffed animal.
Have toys and activities on hand
Bring balls, board games, drawing supplies or soap bubbles. Nature itself is a big playground – but sometimes some quiet activities are also needed.
Safety first
Have a first aid kit available, as well as mosquito repellent and plasters. Take a walk with the children and show them where you live and what to do if they get lost.
Give children participation
Let them help out – carrying stuff, setting up a picnic or building a hut. It makes the camping experience more meaningful for them.
